5 songs to get you through March ’16

Here are my five tracks to get you through March. Enjoy!

  1. Coldplay – Army of one

I’d gone off Chris Martin and co. a few albums back but it feels like they’ve bounced back bigger and better with their latest offering. I’m not sure if this will (or already has) hit single status but it’s one of my favourite tracks. Partly for the smooth beat, but also the heartfelt lyrics… “I’m never so high as when I’m with you, and there isn’t a fire, that I wouldn’t walk through, my army of one is gonna fight for you”

Sorry everyone – I couldn’t find a video for the Coldplay track anywhere online (I know right?)

  1. The XX – Intro

How does a 2-minute intro make it into this list? Listen to it and find out. There’s something about this simple track that lulls me into a different headspace. This was the first track played when we saw The XX live in Melbourne a few years ago, setting up the rest of the show beautifully. If you feel like you need a fresh start through the day, listen to this and hit restart.

p.s I had this as my phone alarm to wake up to and still didn’t get sick of it. Now that’s saying something.

  1. Jarryd James – Regardless

I thank Pandora for putting me onto Jarryd James. The whole album (thirtyone) is quite good, but this track features the vocals of Julia Stone as an added bonus. Basically a mix of soft, soulful, wispy vocals over the top of stirring baselines and mystical pianos. Fantastic.

  1. Wolfmother – Gypsy Caravan

Ok, enough of the slow stuff. This track wouldn’t sound out of place in the 80’s or 90’s rock scene. Plenty of guitars, plenty of drums, add in Andrew Stockdale’s Axl Rose-esque vocals and you’ll be thrashing your head and rocking your air guitar before you know it.

  1. Eric Prydz – Breathe

“Let go… release.”

Turn this song up in your car and tell me if you don’t start breathing, letting go, and releasing. A nice quick fast-paced stress reliever, especially on the way to work!

    1. If you get the chance to see them live (and haven’t already), make sure you do! The venue itself probably wasn’t the best for that sort of music but even then they still sounded so so good.

  1. I am not a fan of Coldplay anymore. Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head were very good everything since then is not for me.

XX is very good, I actually have this album. The two sound well together, his voice is very droney on its own but with her singing too sounds awesome.

Never heard any Jarryd stuff before. Your video didn’t work for me so I went and searched for it. Nice track and nice video too.

    1. Sorry about the video but cheers for the comment 😉 I can always count on you to reply to these lists! Yeah, I thought my Coldplay days were over, but I enjoyed this latest album, although the days of repeating their stuff over and over is well and truly done.
